Definition: Panic Attacks (Panic Attack) Panic attack is the name given to extremely high levels of anxiety, in response to a perceived or real threat. The name is in fact a misnomer as the body is not attacked, it is in fact the natural, instinctive response to threat; the 'fight or flight' response when the mind and body are preparing to fight or run away. Common symptoms of panic attacks include increased heart rate, sweating, breathing faster and dry mouth.
