Hi cdegarmo88,

A good measure of a person’s healthy weight is their BMI (Body Mass Index) because it takes their height into account. There are loads of online calculators you can use to check, and I think you’ll find yourself to be within the ‘normal’ range.

I suppose one of the best ways to not gain weight it to keep active, and being a stay at home dad, I should image there’s plenty of opportunity for that

Take care,
Well it's been a good day. Chinese was happy to cook my meal without MSG. Had about 8000mg of vitamin C today & felt fine but couldn't stop farting ... best thing is though that I finished my first week without inhaling ANY toxic substances (17 days off weed, 7 days off nicotine)!

Was told I should start my day with porridge oats cos it would release the energy really slowly & last me ages. Sounds good to me.

Better living thorough reckless experimentation!

Not eating anything is too dangerous!! avoid eating is not the solution for obesity otherwise it will be helping to increase weight if you not eat anything regularly, because your body will make such habit of empty stomach and will utilize the the energy in different fashion.
make a proper diet chart with expert dietitian and then follow strictly then only you'll get the result what you want.

I've been feeling incredibly good, obviously with the odd ups and downs and even some very traumatic experiences, which nevertheless haven't lead me to relapse on weed or nicotine.

I have however been having diarrhea for over a week now. Does that point towards any complications, or is it just a normal process indicating that my body is still adapting to the new diet? Could any of the supplements (e.g. B vitamins) be acting as a laxative?

Not been taking large amounts of vitamin C, so that can't be the reason.

Diarrhoea usually indicates an allergy of one kind or other. Please use Finding your Allergies. Drinking black tea for its tannin content may sometimes help.

then eat proper food like: brown rice, vegetables, fish

no meat, avoid dairy products, don't use butter, but plant oil, eat a small amout and wait 20 mins (because it takes 20 mins before ur body can feel the satisfaction)

ecological food generally is good

drink green and white tea, as it helps to burn more calories and get rid of cholesterol, and start exercising a little, and then more and more

also avoid watching tv, and commercials (possible food commercials)

meditate on your addiction (read The Power of Now), be aware of it, dont try to hide from it, just face it, and smile at it.. don't let it tempt you

You are not your mind

It's never too late.
People often expect their issues to suddenly go away overnight then get all disillusioned and despondent, and give up when it doesn’t happen like that. But they forget that the problem probably developed over a long period of time, hence time is required to learn some new and better ways.

Anorexia is a serious disorder. I comes about in many ways. But why?

One of the most important reasons is how society views women. The media throws images of "ideal" weight at us even though it's a bunch of bull. Those models pose for an ideal position. They are not perfect in their weight at all, educating the falseness in advertising is one way to help.

The girl/woman sees food as a crime against her body. If she eats, she gains weight. To many subliminal messages from the outside world in media and her peer group tell her this.

What is the normal ratio of body fat to a woman to look good? 25%. She probably thinks it's zero. No matter how you try to convince her the truth, she will always see herself as over weight when she sees her image. Even when bone then, she will see herself as over weight. It's a psychiological problem.

Self-esteeme is the key, not just her weight. She feels that she must be as thin as possible to gain acceptence in society.

This problem can not be cured in a day. It takes careful psychotherapy to find out what the situation is and what is happening in her mind.

Desensitizing helps. The more she understands what media is doing and careful examination of self-image by a trained professional is what she needs. She needs a new outlook on her image.

It takes work, but it can be done...

quote:
Originally posted by Feel Think Act
I've started on a hypoglycemic diet after reading jurplesman's article and realising how much my various problems (substance abuse, depression, anxiety, fatigue, agression etc.) are linked to my eating habits.

I have realised that a low GI diet is often mentioned in connection with weight loss, however for me it is more important to gain weight - preferably by adding muscle rather than fat although I'm sure a little bit more fat wouldn't do me any harm. I've checked my BMI and are considered 'normal', albeit definitely on the lower end. Also, I am considerably taller than most people, way above average.

Are there any specific foods which can help me towards achieving my aim?

And which part of my diet would I have to increase - carbohydrates, protein, or both?

How do I get the right exercise plan? I can't afford gym membership and would have to start slowly as I'm not exactly the fittest person, but I do walk quite a few miles every day with my dog.

Sorry if i'm asking a lot of things at once, but all my questions seem related to each other.

Thanks for any advice on this! I'm having my wholegrain pasta with tomato sauce, mussels and olives now.

hi
you gain weight and be healthy, so you need to consume more calories every day from healthy foods and choose the right types of exercise.

                                      Hi Anonymous01,

Some sources of information and support which you may find helpful:

www.b-eat.co.uk
www.eating-disorders.org.uk

In the ideal world you should be able to access free help on the NHS, however it is pot luck whether your area will have a dedicated eating disorders service (I work as a therapist for the NHS in addition to my private practice and we have to refer patients with eating disorders to a privately run company as there is nothing available in our Primary Care Trust).

There are some useful CBT-based self-help packs on the following website:
Low self-esteem - http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/infopax.cfm?Info_ID=47
Disordered eating - http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/infopax.cfm?Info_ID=48
It seems like you generally have addictive personality (if such thing ever existed) and generally are lacking control, but it's fantastic that you can admit it. But now it's time to act, before you impair your health. I suggest that you become more active, take regular exercise, make your mealtime regular, eat a balanced diet. Do not buy food you could binge or snack on (if it's not in the house you are not going to eat it). Find exercise you enjoy, swimming, jogging, cycling, perhaps something you can do whole listening to music, something that is not going to make you feel like you are being punished. Motivate yourself every day to do it. And most importantly, believe that you can control it. Because you can.
good luck

In my educated opinion (Bachelor in Psychology) people that are endomorphs will eat a lot generally and it works for them, mesomorphs will eat some, and then work it off, and probably go in for starch; and ectomorphs like me will will eat a lot and burn it off right away, maybe preferring high protein meals because that's the way an ectomorphic metabolism goes.

for one, you can't really ever break out of that mold, unless you reject it entirely. human bodies fall into three categories, for instance.

Second, some people don't like their eating habits, and some don't like the way they look in the mirror, but first and foremost you've got to be yourself and behave accordingly and some of your behaviors will be hard to beat or un-learn, and probably sometimes it's futile to try.

They say exercise is most of the battle, but exercise is a behavior like cooking, and in a way cooking is a form of exercise.

I receommend trying to cook yourself some meals that you like to eat and then trying to blame yourself for the way that you look. then you'll be the one to blame.

otherwise you'll probably try to hold accountable other people for the way that you look because you're not loved, etc, or are ugly or not beautiful.

if you cook for yourself and you find yourself ugly in the mirror, however, then maybe you cooked too much of a bad thing!

In my opinion, you'll be in control of your diet and your behavior some if only you yourself handle it.
