Average IQ of CEOs only 104. All display High EQ.  Reply with quote

Sure breaks the myth that IQ is the sole indicator of intelligence and success.

More information:

"For 515 senior executives analyzed by the search firm Egon Zehnder International, those who were primarily strong in emotional intelligence were more likely to succeed than those who were strongest in either relevant previous experience or IQ. In other words, emotional intelligence was a better predictor of success than either relevant previous experience or high IQ. More specifically, the executive was high in emotional intelligence in 74 percent of the successes and only in 24 percent of the failures. The study included executives in Latin America, Germany, and Japan, and the results were almost identical in all three cultures."

Another question, does overrepresentation of certain ethnic groups as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies have something to do with the fact that, on average, these groups have higher EQ?

I wonder if this would explain why a director with high IQ might not get along with an employee with high EQ but a director with high EQ would get along with an employee with high IQ ?! Laughing

Interesting Finding  Reply with quote

I am not surprised by your finding, that the average IQ of CEOs is not high wshen their EQ is high! Well this is because in our careers we need to be able to deal with people and build effective relationships. Many people become successful solely for the good relations they have with others. As Daniel Goleman said, IQ is merely a indication of your ability to achieve academically, but not necessarily success in a career.

What good is a manager with high IQ who, because of his bad behaviour and low EQ, drove his team to resign. He will eventually fail because he lost his team's efforts that is directly related to his own success.
