vertigo  Reply with quote

a colleague of mine asked me if hypnosis can help with vertigo. Its not the fear of heights that i thought it was, but a dizzy feeling sometimes when standing, and especially when lying flat on her back - she now sleeps with 3 or 4 pillows because of this, which affects her sleep. Her doctor has given her tablets but "they dont help much".
I get the idea that it may be linked to anxiety but am not sure.
Any tips or info out there?

thanks, anthony.

Hi anthony,
It may well be a strange variation of 'height phobia'. You could try the V/K, or Rewind Technique and see if that helps. At least it will narrow the options down.
good luck Cool

Welcome to the forums anthony and iggy!

What makes you think it's linked to anxiety anthony? Is there a clear pattern? Can she 'do it to order'? i.e. get dizzy by making herself anxious?

I realise that I am replying to an old post - I get vertigo but not because of heights. I sleep with 3-4 pillows - I stand up, get dizzy, fall over. I have also spent three days vomiting because of the constant dizzy feeling.

Although I get it several times a week - mainly due to lying totally flat without thinking on the floor or to look under my car etc I DO ALSO have very bad attacks following an argument with my g/f. I do believe that it can partly be due to anxiety and perhaps treating that could reduce the amount of occasions it happens.

Just a thought and sorry for interrupting thread.

My daughter gets dizzy if she has to stand still for any length of time. She's fine if she can move around and change position. Doesn't seem to be related to height, but to standing upright. She finds long queues agonising!

I also suffer from the standing up dizzyness and it has been thoroughly investigated by the doctor... seems that it can be cause by fluctuating bloody pressure as well as some other key things such as low blood sugar level. I certainly find it worst when I havent eaten, but sometimes I get it when I have, the one thing that relieves the dizzyness for me is to crouch down, but then it returns as soon as I standup again.

I dont feel however that this is probably the same as the feeling experienced by Anthony's client as I have never had it laying down...

food for thought though Smile
