40 is nothing. I am 40 and was a professionally trained musician for 30 years, then became a registered nurse, then I added my own real estate investment business, online marketing business and coaching business. If I can do this, you can, too, and even more. And you will have to learn some people skills. It is not hard. There are classes that teach communication skills, as well as books, but nothing beats experience. Starting your own business will compel you to be your own boss and reevaluate the meaning of being proactive. But pople skills are a must. Problems are ok and will always be in your life as long as you work with people. But you will have to learn to change your reaction towards the problems that you have with different people. This happens by redefining certain priorities in your life, as well as creating goals that will help you prosper, and finding the likeminded individuals to surround yourself with in order to succeed. But likeminded does not mean they will always agree with you. What it means is that you have a common goal and you aspire to succeed together. Find something that people need and that you love doing and start a business. It will take some self-searching, but it is a great and very healthy process.
