starting therapy

Postby desperate788 » Thu Apr 19, 2018 8:04 am

After delaying for a long time I started therapy yesterday..actually I don't expect much just giving a try. Therapist was better than I expected but I think he doesn't have the capacity to heal such a complex case as me. He says he needs to understand the evolving of my disease and digs in my past. My psychosis diagnosis and it's relation to my worries he says he must lighten. I'm willing to give chance. Next meeting is at Wednesday it's once a week..

Avoid this thought. It sets up useless barriers.

I agree with Richard, this kind of expectation isn't helpful.

He says he needs to understand the evolving of my disease and digs in my past.

He's made an important point here. You have everything to gain by being open and honest with him, and nothing to lose. A good therapist needs to know what's happened along the way to make you the person you are now. The things in your past that you're reluctant to tell him are the very things you need to talk about.

My psychosis diagnosis and it's relation to my worries he says he must lighten.

I agree with him. He's committed to sorting things out for you so you'll feel better about life. I'm glad you're going to give it a go, but I have to tell you therapy is not a passive thing. He can't 'fix' you by some miracle (no one can); you will fix yourself with his guidance. That means therapy will lead to you feeling much better about yourself, and empower you to make the right decisions for now and the future.

I'm excited for you :D and look forward to seeing your progress here.

The only worry I have about that is you getting such a great life that you leave the forum!

I was kidding. Give therapy all you've got and remember to choose happiness. We'll be able to 'talk' here for as long as you want to.

Today again we worked on my past. He wants to know about my childhood my relations with my mother father and sister he says there is a missing part. I also mentioned him my lack of sexual desire today. He surprised me when he knew I had desire when in high school but not in college..I'm hopeful about this therapy thing as a conclusion. .

Yes, it sounds like he's really paying attention. Do you have any idea what the "missing part" is?
