Sociopath Test!!

Postby Triarius » Fri Dec 26, 2008 2:04 am

Hey! This is really cool!

According to this, I'm NOT a sociopath!

My brother has a theory about how this works... so anyways, i want a few people to try this, and then we'll get some discussion started about why this would or would not be an effective test.

Ready... go!

If it were that easy to tell whether someone was a sociopath I wouldn't be working on a degree in Forensic Psychology.

That video was a very common mental trick, most people would pick that color and tool if they were given that test.

Let me show you:

Ok, think of two shapes, not a square because that's too easy. close your eyes and picture them both clearly - now, put the first shape inside of the second shape.

See? A parlour trick.

There are a bunch of very similar tricks, some work better than others - most of them use the power of suggestion; there are a few posters here that are skilled in hypnosis and NLP that could explain it better than I.

Now there are a few good and simple tests that sociopaths and psychopaths do particularly poor at, such as the stroop test: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroop_effect

But the only real way to identify a psychopath is by their actions and past behaviours. For instance, if your childhood friend who liked to dissect small animals grows up to end up being a deadbeat who spends most of his adult life in prison; chances are he's a sociopath. Although that's not usually the case with some people with the condition.

Yeah, that was my brother's theory was, which makes sense.

Anyways, how does the Stroop effect apply to determining whether someone is a sociopath, or anything else? The Wiki said ADD/ADHD, which makes sense, because if you can't focus, or if your mind is hyperactive, I can imagine that you'd either get it much quicker or slower than average.

Yeah, I know someone who lied constantly, fabricating great stories, and building lies, and most of all, enjoys controlling and influencing people. I don't know if he ever tortured animals, but I wouldn't put it past him. He certainly talked about rape and torture frequently enough to call into question his sanity.

Ok THAT is fuking creepy!

You know what's really creepy though... When they asked to think of a colour and tool, I thought of blood and bashing... so i arrived at red and a hammer...Cause of the psychopath 'test' element, weird, just weird.

Oh and as for the circle and triangle...

I thought of the circle first, so if i had followed you instructions then I would have ended up with a circle inside a triangle...

Here's the funny thing though, I didn't, I skimmed over the instructions and ended up with a triangle inside a circle cause i missed the "put the FIRST" bit...

As I said, it doesn't reveal sociopaths, only their actions are capable of doing that. They just do badly at the test.

There's this other test, I can't remember the name - it basically shows a bunch of faces in different states of emotion - psychopaths can recognize anger or fear but have trouble seeing sadness.

but that's because I got a cert in psych. I thought blue hammer. geez but anyways two percent would not say that red one but only one percent is a psycho the other one percent is a more commonly known as a hero ( and NO not all hero's are GAY, or stupid or even heroic, so f u all) also the amount of other variables that could affect the out come of that test, so it is bs for that too.

That's a valid psychological statement there.

commonly known as a hero

You're using the Jungian personality types? Did you travel through time to get your degree back in 1900?

Thanks for bringing this ancient thread from the vaults diru.

Well I thought of a green spade. (I was just doing some gardening this morning and visualised a greenl gardening trowel)

I'm not a sociopath, but I always come up INFP on Myers Briggs and INFP's are supposedly only 2% of the population...so I guess that's pretty abnormal in itself :)

The stats on this must be highly flawed. How many women would automatically think of a hammer anyway?
