Please, I'm very depressed and Mad. Please help me  Reply with quote

Good day all, I had to one to talk to except the members on this forum, I find a relief when someone here read and care about my issue.

I been working for my current job for 3 years, I'm happily married with 2 kids. I have fun personality and love to work with people, and love meeting new people. last week, this female person walked in to the floor with someone where I work at, so I knew she was working upstairs, so I added her to communicator IM at work then started quick conversation with her to introduce myself:

Me: I heared you are buying lunch to everyone today
Female: excuse me, who said that when and why
Me: I was just joking, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi
Female: hi
me: we always get your emails and never actually know the person
Female: ya sorry i know i send alot of these emails
me: when you walked on the floor yesterday with jack I was like Wow who is that and they told then it was you
me: by the way congratulations on your marriage i know it was last year sorry to say that late, I worked night shift at that time and its hard to talk to people.

any how the manager sent me email want to see me in his office with my supervisor, and he gave me a copy of that chat, saying with loud/mad tone, that woman walked to my office crying and said she is afraid to walk to the floor you work at alone ( * we are 5 people there*) he added, I expect everyone to deal with respect to everyone I could have fired you but decided to talk to you first and make sure that never happens.
he also added, I didn't schedule your annual review yet to see if you are going to stay here after our meeting or if you gonna walk out, I explained to him that it was first time talking to her and I never talked to her after that and I just wanted to be nice. after long talk, went back to my job

should I talk to my wife about what happen, I'm afraid she will take it wrong way!!! I feel down and depressed for what my manager said to me and made feel im the worst person ever by the way he never wrote me up or anything he just said this just warning. is that normal? I'm really confused if I did something wrong or not. can they fire for that?

Its not too bad of a conversation but I'm not sure what the rest of it is. Some objectionable points:
* your joke is teasing; teasing is not appropriate.
* "wow" etc is totally inappropriate; if you are impressed by her work that's different.
* the congratulations was appropriate, but recalling it was last year makes you seem like a stalker.

I suggest any further conversattions to her go through your supervisor. Whether you did something wrong or whether she freaks out at her own shadow doesn't matter now. At work its best to just stick to the facts and work. Sorry to be a stick in the mud. If the other person opens up and behaves more human then reciprocate. But your situation is exactly why you stick to business.
