My friend has just started taking trazadone & finds it ok. I'm a nurse just looked it up in my BNF (nurses bible!!) for you Its a tricyclic antidepressant
side effects can include dry mouth, nausea weight gain or loss, constipation.
there are many more side effects but most medicines have tonnes to mention!! If you search for patients experiences of trazadone in ask jeeves I think you will find more personal experiences. This is often more useful than the info drugs companies give you. Good luck LindsayX

I always say that anti depressants have never worked for me, and by and large they havent - this may be the one exception. About 20 years ago, I was very ill with depression. I wasnt talking to anyone and rarely got up. I was being treated at hospital. I was put on trazadone and gradually increased them until I think I was taking about four a day. They did elleviate the depression a lot and I only realised this when I tried to come off them prematurely and plummeted again and they enabled me to get back to work sooner than I had anticipated.

What i did find difficult about them was as soon as I swallowed them I felt sick and dizzy, so I used to take them after I got in bed in the evening, then I would get some visual disturbances when I first woke up - like white lines round everything, but they did help me through an extremely bad episode.

Oddly, when I tried them again a few years later, they didnt help. I understand these tablets have quite a high tolerance level for people that otherwise cant take them, and of course they must have improved an awful lot in 20 years.

Best to look at the websites that give you all the info on anti depressants and remember that everyone's metabolism is different and what may affect one person wont necessarily have the same effect on anyone else

Hi Dee

If you are concerned about starting this medication it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about it. Did the doctor tell you to take both at once?

How long have you been taking Cipramil for?

I've also sent you a PM.

Hi Dee

Has you doctor suggested you stop Cipramil? Or are you taking this along with the new medication?

Hi Dee

It will take time for the new medication to kick in and you need to allow up to 4-6 weeks before deciding whether you are finding it beneficial.

Have you tried the free Panic Attacks Course yet? This could help you develop other coping strategies too.

Other things that can help are to do some daily relaxation, either using a CD or doing something like yoga or meditation, as well we regular exercise and making sure you eat a healthy diet with regular meals.
