The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by Ormand McGill  Reply with quote

Anyone got 'The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism' by Ormand McGill? It's supposed to be pretty good - just wondering whether anyone had invested the 30 or 40 odd quid and could give me some feedback on it?

When I first kicked off I had Ormonds book and did not find it that useful. You certainly get lots of background info - a bit too mystical for some in places.

However if you want lots of information on waking trance phenomena, thousands of ways to induce trance and background on many stage shows it is good. It has all that.

The biggest problem I had was that the trance inductions all seemed too simple. Very repetitive and nearly all delivered in the authoritarian style. 'Your arm is stiff, stiff, getting stiffer and stiff, you cannot bend it you cannot bend your arm....'

At the time I wasn;t sure how to deliver this stuff. When you do then the book is just great. It gives 100's of inductions on this theme.

40 quid could possibly go further.
Get a copy of tranceformations (Bandler and Grinder) and a copy of deeper and deeper (Chase).

I too am not that keen on New Encyclopedia.

If you are seriously interested in performing stage hypnosis then I would strongly recommend going to see a live hypnotist - IMO you would learn far more from this than any training manual.

Just my thoughts!

Well, I dispise royal Mail, I contacted Amazon, they said they sent it. Royal Mail siad they recived it, and then I talked to my local post office. They said they remeber putting it in a bag for the delivry man, I went home. and what did I find outside my front door? A big weather-worn box, opening it. I am greeted by a ruined cover. I open the book, big mistake, all the pages fall out.

Thank you Royal Mail.

They just left it there, I didnt even get a knock at the door!
