Scared of needles and getting blood taken

I have a 30 year old friend (no, it's not me) who is scared of needles and getting his blood taken for testing.

He has been having a lot of issues in the past two years which would deem a blood test appropriate to see if it's a physical or mental issue. But he refuses to go to his doctor and get a blood test because he is scared of needles and having his blood drawn.

Unfortunately he lives far away from me, and I am unable to be there in person to coerce him to get this done, or be there in person for him.

To his recollection, he has never had a blood test in his life. And some of the issues he's been having are similar to what I've had in the past few years, which (for me) are due to vitamin deficiencies. I want him to get a blood test and have his doctor check for anything causing him to have these issues.

But he's scared to do it and refuses to even talk to his doctor about it.

How do you get an adult to get over this enough to have the procedure done? Especially via long distance?
