I need help with binge eating

Postby EmotionalEngineer » Sat Mar 18, 2017 12:22 am

I feel like I'm in a downward spiral of over eating and getting depressed because I'm over weight and then self soothing by over eating and getting depressed more and the cycle continues.

I take Cymbalta and Wellbutrin for depression and anxiety. I don't think either is supposed to cause weight gain.

I'm going to start seeing a therapist next month and I'm sure I can discuss it with her. I thought it would be helpful to share here to.

Does anyone have advice on dealing with compulsive eating? People tell me "it's simple, just eat less". Sometimes I feel like I'm possessed and completely out of control.

You can go to a psychologist, a nutritionist to help you with that topic, You can occupy your mind in some activity to calm anxiety, eating exesively is a habit produced sometimes for psychological reasons, it can be anxiety, depression, stress, and , it is important to evaluate what are the things that generate stress, anxiety, Or depression and find ways to solve those things to avoid having to eat in excess to relieve those emotions

What do you love to do? (or want to love to do).
Why do you actually want to lose weight?

It shouldn't be because 'you're fat'... you'd just be stuck in a loop.
You have to get out there, and find something to get up and discover. Something you want to be good at... become a master.
Being fit or skinny shouldn't about a judgemental category. that you get all worked up over.
A true type of fit it is 'useful' to do the things i enjoy. Outdoors. Get outdoors.

Thank you for the replies. I'm starting therapy on April 12th. I like the statement about loosing weight just because l'm fat or because of social pressures. I can see how that would cause depression and anxiety to get worse.

I have been a mess for so long I have a difficult time remembering what I used to do for fun. I do have hope though. I'll find something fun to do that involves physical activity.

Thanks again for the encouraging words.

It is better that you should go to a therapsit and tell him/her about your weight problem. It would be very helpful for you so please do this quickly.

I cant help with overeating. But if you become an avid road cyclist you will never have a weight problem again.
And eventually you will need to over eat just to keep your body fat from getting too low.

Even on flat land, i can burn 1,000 calories per hour on a bike, and on a real bike outside the gym, 1hr feels like 20min.

Its a bit of a proccess, but its unbeatable for effortless weightloss, and fitness, you can go anywhere on a bike.

Its best to spend between 1,000-1,600 US dollars and get a professional bike fit. Then your done, thats it, you have a bike for life. Get aluminum frame, carbon snaps in a crash. Do research, choose carefully, take your time.

Its better to slowly become a bit of an athlete, then a bit of a fitness model, it gives you more options, its easier, more fun, and it has way more year round lean potential. Olympic athletes eat up to 10,000 calories a day just to support themselves in peak training season, a 280lb IFBB pro body builder will typically be eating 1,600-2,500 calories per day in a cutting season. Then they arnet athletic enough to keep weight off when their appetite kicks in. I know your an engineer, but think about what life you'd rather have if you werent an engineer.

As for diet, my best advice is not to settle on anything you havent researched extensively.

I purged only once in my life, because i drank poision, but im also a fully fledged binge eater. I realized there had to be a much better way for people who binge eat to control their weight, i didnt know that thought would eventually turn me into an athlete with a full time job.

You should think about it on more positive way

Try not to eat unhealthy food and do more activities that can help you become happy and same time burn calories

As a result; you eat more healthy food, you do what you love, you become more healthy and also better looks

It's better to do something else that would make yourself busy and not think of any food at that moment. Also it is helpful for you to convince your self to go outside literally. Just walk around from point to point wherever you want to go. Just give your self a physical activity. Just any kind will do as long as it will involve your physical body.

Personally I use green tea/black coffee/protein shake in between meals to ward off any cravings, and am very specific about timing. If it's hard to eat precisely bc of your schedule prepack your next meal.
