Anxiety Relapse

Hello all, new here. So, I've had Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) for about 10 years, I'm 28 now. Long story short, I have been on Citalopram, a generic version of Celexa, for most of that time, and have done very well on it. So well, eventually I thought that perhaps I didn't need it anymore. I started decreasing my dosage, and a couple months later, due to a lowered dosage of my meds and a lack of sleep, my anxiety came back to hit me like a brick wall. Clearly, I still need to be on my meds.

Needless to say, I'm currently a couple days into building back up the 40mg concentration in my system, but in the meantime my anxiety has been awful. The worst part is, though, I haven't been able to sleep, and we all know what kind of vicious cycle that can become, i.e. anxious about not being able to sleep leading to sleeplessness leading to higher anxiety from a lack of sleep, and so on. I went to the doctor to try and get something fast-acting to relieve me until my Citalopram starts kicking in again, primarily to help me sleep. He prescribed me Ambien, but it hasn't helped.. I'll fall asleep for a couple hours and wake back up and be up the rest of the night.. Awful. I'm going back tomorrow to see if I can get something else like Xanax or Ativan to help more so with my anxiety before bed, and therefore sleeping, rather than primarly a sleep-inducer like Ambien seems to be.

Has anyone here had a similar situation? I'm really struggling right now and could use some uplifting. Thanks!
