Struggling to cope after car accident.

Postby rkh207 » Sun Jul 16, 2017 9:25 pm

A few days ago I was driving on a country road and came behind cyclists so went to overtake. I checked to see the road was clear and i thought it was so began to overtake. There was a slight bend I didn't notice, if a car had been coming I would've seen but there was a motorcycle (i didn't think of bikes) and he collided with me at 60mph. My car was totalled but amazingly no one was hurt. People at the scene including the cyclist even said to me they would have overtaken at that point too yet ever since despite everyone coming out okay the way I feel is as though I have killed someone. I feel horribly, horribly guilty about my mistake and can't get over the fact I could've really hurt someone. I can't move off my bed as the guilt is overwhelming. This may seem irrational as no one was hurt in this incident but this is how i feel. Any advice/thoughts are appreciated.

I don't think you're being silly, quite the opposite. It shows maturity that you don't just brush it off and understand the severity of this incident and that things could have gone allot worse. Just because nobody was hurt, doesn't mean the incident is meaningless.

As for the guilt. Luckily all you have to feel guilty over is material damages. So don't be to hard on yourself. We all make mistakes, use this experience to better yourself, to become a more defensive driver, aware of how quickly things can change.
