Weed withdrawal - erectile dysfunction

Hi all...

This thread is a great resource, mostly because theres nothing else out there connecting weed and ED.

I smoked on and off for the past 5 years, usually taking 1-2 week breaks every month or so but almost daily the rest of the time. Not high 24/7, but a couple tokes a night. In my mid 30s.

I noticed that during periods Im smoking (especially concentrates, and especially before bed) I seem to have ED (sometimes, not every time). When I smoke a few nights in a row I get no morning wood and have very little desire. That was a big reason for me to get clean.

When I stopped using I had 2-3 rough sleepless nights and anxious/headachey days. But those first 2-3 days my sex drive was off the charts high. This seems to happen whenever I stop using, the first 2-3 days Im super horny.

But then, it crashed. Days 5-10 I had zero drive. Literally none. Now Im 12 days clean and just starting to feel sexual desires again, but the sex drive is still low. Still have trouble getting hard. Seems to be getting slightly better each day. Morning wood has been back since day 2, but that doesnt seem to correlate to being able to get hard when it matters.

Like everyone else has said, it seems the only solution (that doesnt come in a pill) is time. From reading this thread and my own experience, it seems to depend on (1) your body chemistry (2) how often you smoked, what % of each day you are high (3) How potent your stuff is. Smoking oils regularly really seems to **** up my body, not just ED but other bad side effects too. It also seems like people who had a worse/longer "hell" period - the initial sleepless nights and stressful days after quitting - the longer it takes for the ED to resolve itself.

One thing Ive seen people mention is that it may be the smoke and not the thc. It isnt. I exclusively vape, and have this issue.

Resurrecting this old thread...

Im 135 days (4.5 months) weed free now, and still cant get hard with my gf. My sex drive is very low. Ive had maybe 8 days over the past 135 where Ive felt it come back to what I think is a normal level; but now Im not even sure if that is my normal. Im starting to think maybe this is just how I am, and I just wont ever be very "turned on" again. I rarely have morning wood, and most days I just dont feel any sex drive, or even desire to view porn or anything.

At 135days, I have a very small desire again, but its so slight. That is improvement, I had 0 drive a couple months ago. But even now my sex drive is not enough to get hard with my gf. I have tried viagra which works to get me hard but doesnt increase sex drive at all; and it just doesnt feel all that great.

Has anyone else had erection problems lasting this long after quitting? Or should I see a doctor?

Hey!
I'm close to my 2 year anniversary. It takes time. It took me over a year to become comfortable with sex again. It was up and down all the time, but now I'm back to how I was except one thing, I don't need sex that often, but I'm in my mid 30s so I think that's normal :)
Just relax and it'll come back. 4 months is nothing.

Best of luck,
Mike

Thanks for posting back Mike. I sure hope you're right, it's incredibly frustrating and a big reason I quit in the first place. Still seems to fluctuate a lot, even though most of my other symptoms have decreased a lot.

Just an update at 6 months, things have improved considerably the last couple weeks and I do feel like I will be back to normal in the coming months. Thanks for the words of wisdom Mike. Sure hope Im over all the weed-induced ED issues for good now!

Day 51 for me
Allthough my mental issues are becoming more and more clearer my erections are weak and my sex drive has improved just a tiny bit

Plus weirdest thing ive had is that i have lost sensation in my penis and it feels numb.

And i can only get erections in certain position and lose them when i stand up. And through physical simulation only.

I can still masturbate but with weak erections

Is that normal?

Plus ive got some scan next week for all this issue.

All sounds normal @zzzz. See my comment in the other thread; for some weed withdrawal can kill your sex drive. Nothing to do but give it time. Im at 6.5 months and am up and down, week by week...one week "normal" one week low libido and ED.

I posted in this thread over a year ago about my own story but I thought I would give an update and some advice for those going through it now and still active on this thread. Firstly congratulations to everyone that has been 'cured' and moved on from this. It's a very long, slow and turbulent journey. It took me a good 4-5 months to start having full erections again and to be much more responsive to sexual stimulus. Cannabis really does have a pretty serious effect on the mind and physiology of the body. Overstimulation and excessive release of dopamine has a pretty lasting effect on the brain that will only reverse over a long period of time. The best advice I can give for getting 'cured' is completely focusing on what you are putting in your body and how much sleep and exercise you are getting. Live like a monk for a few months, avoid porn and masturbating for as long as possible and try to move on from the anxiety and depression that comes attached. You will be cured eventually but the thought that you won't ever be cured does definitely hold people back. SparkleFly is correct in saying that it comes in waves. This is hard to deal with but this is a mental disease as much as it is a physical one. Let your body and mind recover and you will be fine. It is perfectly natural for there to be times in your life where sexual function is not quite 100%, the mind is a fragile thing. Good luck to anyone still on this journey, I know how tough it can be. Peace.

I've noticed my driving is worse since I quit 7 years ago. Also, I can no longer carry my carrier bag with shopping in my left hand. I noticed this about 3 months, 2 weeks and 4-5 days in to my quit. I'm not sure if it's linked to quitting though. I still can't play a piano but I couldn't when I smoked, so I guess that's probably the only thing that's not linked to my quit.. It really is a complex drug I guess.

Hey Tokeless,

I'm not sure if I am recalling correctly, but didn't you say you didn't go through PAWS when you quit?

Also, your focus, reflexes and awareness definitely decreases with age. Do you think that's why your driving is not as good?

Could you please expand on the left hand thing? Like you lost left hand coordination or control? Or just the strength in your left arm?

My driving is definitely worse after I quit!! But so is everything I do except my negativity and anxiety! Hehe!!

Ha ha... Sorry. Just a bit of banter because it seems EVERYTHING is because of Paws. I'm positive many people who never went near weed have exactly the same symptoms many on here keep banging on about, which just keeps them in the tumble dryer. I do get it that some suffer but in all my time of being involved in weed which covers a long time and many, many fellow users, I have never come across one who got PAWS when they stopped. That's what led to my post on is it what you smoked, ie wax, concs, because that shits just looking for problems.. 80%+ THC and people wonder why they got f***ed up??

See i smoked purely thc with pen and thats what messed me up cuz that stuff was too strong and with dail usage i used to spend my whole day stoned for nearly 6 months and i quit cold turkey the very first day i quit i had withdrawal symptoms and since then i havent been that good.

I regret smoking now but it messed up my erections on another level before i used to turned on very quick now only with porn and through physical simulation only i thought i suffered from venous leakage

@tokeless yeah, I agree some of the things I read here sound pretty normal. Before I Started smoking, I had good days and bad. I was more depressed and unmotivated some days, and fine others. I agree it’s impractical to think you’ll be 100% every day. Sex drive does fluctuate too, but a complete loss of it and getting ED out of the blue is definitely from PAWS.

Unfortunately for me, I never had sex before I started smoking a lot; and I had intermittent ED while smoking regularly. So I don’t know if my ED will recover completely after the dust settles. But it certainly was made a hell of a lot worse by paws.

@zzzz yeah, concentrates **** you up. When I started using vape pens, that’s when things went off the deep end. I always had some side effects when I was regularly smoking herb (during times I was sober), but they were very mild/intermittent. Once I started using oils, it was like I had a mild Paws every day...muscle soreness, ED, depression, insomnia, and more but all mild. When I quit cold turkey withdrawal was hell (withdrawal from herb was nothing compared to oils) and paws set in full force (including ED and 0 libido).
