Career change to counselling - requesting advice!

Postby Pharmrd » Sun Dec 10, 2017 6:55 am

Hi all, I'm a UK pharmacist and feeling very dissatisfied with my current job not long after qualifying. The long and short of it is down to a lot of focus on commerciality/targets rather than actually helping anyone + unsafe working practices etc

I've been evaluating my options for a career change and based on positive past experiences with counselling and the opportunity to talk to a counselor the other week, this seems like a solid option. Especially as it seems like the opposite of my current role in terms of the factors outlined above.

However, before jumping into anything uninformed, I thought I would ask any practicing professionals here on their thoughts of the job with regards to job satisfaction, work-life balance and long term progression. What are your opinions on this?

And finally, what would be the best/quickest way to get into the profession. I'm thinking of shadowing as much as I can to initially and eventually applying for a course, but am not sure whether college or university is the way forward.

I'd appreciate any advice you have for me and look forward to discussing this further.
