Considering Career in Counseling

Postby evaunitross » Tue Jan 16, 2018 12:03 am

Hi everybody, this is my first post so I'll keep it fairly brief.

I recently submitted an application for a Masters program in Counseling at the University of Colorado. Up until this point I've worked as a lab technologist and although I love science, I find my career utterly unsatisfying. I've been interested in counseling for a long time and I believe I have a lot of the personality traits and skills to be a good counselor... but how can I be sure?

When I tell people I'm pursuing a career in counseling, the usual response is "wow, that sounds like it would be really challenging" or "I heard they don't make any money" and other really discouraging stuff. I guess I'm just looking for some encouragement. Any advice, questions or suggestions would help!

Thanks :)

Get as many internships as possible and learn what you like and don't like!
