Can divorced couple get back together?

Postby daughtersask » Wed Aug 01, 2018 9:52 am

My parents got divorced when I was three years old. Few years after, my mom found a new lover and they have an eight-year old kid now. However, they’re not married. My mom refused to do so. My dad on the other hand, did not even try to remarry. Yes, he dates women from USA but never planned of marrying again. Four months ago, my mom broke with his new lover because of third party. Just recently, I have noticed that my dad and mom are getting along well. My dad even suggested to pay a visit at my mom’s house. As far as I could remember, they were not in good terms before, so I was thinking something is going on. Can they still get back together after eighteen years of being separated?

Sure. They can get back together and separate as many times as they wish. I’m aware of couples that married and then divorced three of four times.

I hope they will get back together and never separate again.

Because, regardless of their feelings or the struggles and emotions they actually experience, it will make you feel good.

The above is very normal for all sorts of decisions. We try to impart our values and what makes us feel good onto others. People want “the best” for those they love. The problem, is that we often substitute what feels best for us as equally feeling best for them. If we feel good and are happy, so should they. If we feel bad, so should they.

You should not let what your parents decide impact your happiness. If they marry, divorce, marry, divorce, marry, divorce, you should not allow their decisions to define what makes you happy or sad.

Everyday I see people make decisions that I would not make, but in almost every case I support them and am happy for them. It makes me happy if they are happy, regardless of what I think is correct or better.

Never let others define your happiness.
