One lonely portrait

I should be positive
it's so hard with a brain that's neuro chemistry impaired so much

As soon as you put that little word "but" between these two, your vibration stopped moving in an upward spiral and went back to its usual dismal descent.

As to impaired neurochemistry, I repeat: You're a responsible citizen, you go to work etc. There's nothing wrong with your brain apart from what you *think* is wrong. Our minds are so powerful that they bring into our experience the things we think about, day in, day out.

How many people do you know who are fluent in two languages? No doubt it's more common in non-English-speaking countries, but it's still an accomplishment -- and not one that can be achieved by an impaired brain. In fact there are plenty of people, in England of all places, who don't speak (much less write) English as well as you do. I know. I hear them on the bus every day. They aren't brain-impaired, they just can't be bothered to speak English properly or they never learned better.

So let's stop talking about irreparable damage from your frightening childhood and start looking (again!) at the thoughts you're thinking. Because you know what messes up or heals the brain most efficiently? Yep, it's the thoughts we think. It really is. Neurons that fire together wire together, so let's work on what you wrote before.

I should be positive BUT

Let's have at least ten thoughts that start out "I should be positive because..."

For example,
I should be positive because it's Saturday and I can do whatever I like.

but can we tweak the next responses to

I should be happy because I am
rather than
I have

I should be happy because I am a good, loving person.

Go on, you're nowhere near 10 yet.

When you can see a quality in another person it's almost always because you have it in yourself.

I should be happy because I'm healthy and good-looking. :D

ETA: Yes! Great minds think alike. :D :D

Ooops. The hell with Other People and what they think, this is about US.

I should be happy because I'm good at what I do... regardless of whether Other People agree with that.

I should be happy because desperate788 cares what I think ... but for the purposes of this exercise, you and I qualify (to each other) as Other People. And one of life's greatest lessons is that caring what Other People think can seriously mess us up.

Yes, caring what Other People think stops us being selfish boors.
Yes, caring too much about what Other People think can have us trying to twist ourselves to suit everybody else, until we lose sight of Who We Are.
