There's no rule book with children and they can severely test you. Being a parent is about accepting that it's a challenge and they are developing their personalities and this will push boundaries. Being consistent, role modelling the behaviour and responses you want them to have and setting firm but fair boundaries on what is and isn't acceptable. My 9 year old is trying but I explain things to him, including why I was upset or cross about XYZ or him. I ask him what he thinks about it so he can I understand rather than be lectured to. Just do your best but communication is key. Also, they say the first 35 years are the hardest so just enjoy :)
