Speaking to class help!!!

So I'm going to be speaking with two other people infront of my class about a book. I only have to say one slide and a quarter, which doesn't even have much writing on...but I'm so nervous! I'm nervous that I'm going to stutter because of nervs or that it will just go wrong, even though I've read it through before!!! How can I stop this worrying?!

Keep practicing. Practice in front of family. Practice some more...the more you practice the better you will perform.

The worrying, practice will help diminish the worry, but the worry will not go away. It will come back right before you get up to speak. It is part of life, it is natural and it is a good thing as it means you are alive.

Part of life is learning to perform even as you worry. Being nervous and performing is a valuable life skill.

Dear Christine,

There is no reason to panic! :) Being nervous before public speaking is one of the most natural things in the world. Believe it or not, but the fear of public speaking (Glossophobia) is the most common fear among people.

Eliminating the fear is almost impossible, but professional public speakers are trained to control it so that is a motivational factor instead of a distraction. Like Richard said, practising will help you a lot. Public speaking is a skill, and like any skill it takes practice to perfect it.

Here are a few tips that can help you nail this assignment:

1. Do not forget to breath. Breathing has a relaxing effect, by delivering oxygen to the muscles and brain. So if you feel nervous at any point, do not forget to take a deep breath. :) Also, look into some breathing Technics on-line, you might just find something that suits you perfectly.

2. Find a "smiley" face in the audience. It will usually be one of your friends. they will be smiling a lot and nodding their head approving your words. Looking at that person will help you relax and feel confident. (Do not look only at that person, but go back to them from time to time)

3. The most important thing is for you to realise that you are in control. They have no idea what you are going to say, the are not going to notice if you make a small mistake i promise you! As long as you are aware that you are in control you will have confidence and deliver a great assignment! :)

Practicing your part is the most critical. Yet I'd add another suggestion: it's short, so is it maybe possible to practice together in the classroom when no one else is there? If so, I suspect you'd feel better if you also added a practice with each of you doing your own parts, in the actual room where you'll be doing the presentation.
