Jealousy? How do I deal with this?

I create stories with my friends, and I find I get really agitated when they create a relationship between their characters, and I really have no right to be upset because it's their characters and they don't have to ask me for my opinion. I also feel left out or lonely when they make these relationships, leaving me and my character in the shadows without meaning to. I let these things bother me silently until it builds and I end up crying over it, and then I get mad at myself for feeling angry and lonely and it turns into a constant state of sadness. I don't want to tell my friends about it because I don't want them to worry about me getting upset or jealous all of the time. I told one of them about it a little bit but she didn't get the severity that I feel these emotions and sort of blew it off without meaning to. I don't want to bring it back up and seem redundant or annoying, so I've gone back to keeping it bottled up and hoping it'll go away. I would like a way to help me deal with these feelings, if someone could help me.

You deal with it by getting involved in the real world with real people who need real help. This will help you gain some perspective about what is actually important in life. For instance, sign up next week to volunteer at a homeless shelter. Talk with the people, listen to their problems. Or consider spending one day a week at an animal shelter. It truly is unfortunate that animals are euthanized, but it is reality.

There are plenty of options available that can help you take a step back from your story creation/character jealousy.

A good way to resolve this is to simply focus on the thoughts that actually make you feel good. Jealousy is a result of a lack of self esteem or poor self image. You have to think more highly of yourself. Focus on what you're good at, why you're valuable to those around you, what your strengths are. I'm not sure what you mean by characters? Is this a sort of video game? Regardless, increasing your self esteem will resolve this issue.

You may perhaps be giving too much value to these "stories" as Richard above has mentioned. I believe you should create a journal to log all of your thoughts and emotions. This will help you practice mindfulness and develop better relationship with yourself and will help with self esteem.

Once self-esteem is resolved, jealousy is completely obliterated. Any sign of jealousy is a direct link to self esteem problems.
