Try not to take so much protein from whey powder, try to get them from real food, it's better. Make sure you don't overeat your protein. Eat a max of 1 gram of protein per body weight in pounds (if you workout, which in this case, you do).
For example, if you weigh 160 lbs then you should take max 160 g of protein daily. Eating more protein than you need is a waste and it is also dangerous as it could cause kidney stones.
I think the thing that elevates your mood is that you are working out. Many people feel happier and more alive when they start working out.
