Bcaa for recovery?

Postby adamzapple26 » Tue Apr 05, 2016 7:21 am

Hey whats up guys,

So lately I've been taking 5gs of bcaa's (branched amino acids) everyday. It helps me tremendously on elevating my mood and getting through the day. I was just wondering if this might interfere with my recovery? I also drink 3 servings of whey protein a day since I workout a lot.

Hi Adam,

I've been participating in this forum for several years. To my knowledge, no active member has a background to tell you how 5gs of branch amino acids might impact a recovering addict, regardless if the addiction is a substance or psychological.

So, you're taking another mood changer to manage not taking the other.. just quit if that's what you want. There's no short cut.
Best wishes

Pumping proteins does no good but to kill your kidneys over time.

Try not to take so much protein from whey powder, try to get them from real food, it's better. Make sure you don't overeat your protein. Eat a max of 1 gram of protein per body weight in pounds (if you workout, which in this case, you do).

For example, if you weigh 160 lbs then you should take max 160 g of protein daily. Eating more protein than you need is a waste and it is also dangerous as it could cause kidney stones.

I think the thing that elevates your mood is that you are working out. Many people feel happier and more alive when they start working out.
